Due Diligence: Getting to Know Hudson Grieve
Our next “Due Diligence: Getting To Know…” employee spotlight is on: Senior Manager Hudson Grieve.
Macro: Tell us a bit about yourself.
Hudson: I’m a California native, but moved to New York City to attend Iona University, earning my bachelor’s in finance with a minor in economics. After joining Macro in 2017, I transitioned to the Comcast Technology Center project, working on Change Management, Move and Occupancy, Headcount and Seatcount, and Budget Management. I split my time between NYC and Philadelphia, making Philly my home in 2018. Amidst the pandemic, I pursued a master’s in economics at Trinity College in Dublin, returning to Macro in 2021, focusing on PMO efforts and Project Management Systems. In my free time, I play water polo for an Irish team (and have been playing water polo since I was 11), enjoy cooking for my family & friends, and love going to concerts. I’m a bit of a foodie!
Macro: What do you love most about your work or working for Macro?
Hudson: I thrive on the data-centric aspects of my role, navigating large datasets for client Portfolio Management projects. Macro’s unique camaraderie and work environment make every day enjoyable – I appreciate feeling like we’re in the thick of it together.
Macro: What is your favorite part of the project life cycle, and why?
Hudson: I enjoy the initial stages of a project, particularly the setup and planning phases, where the projects feel especially exciting. It’s one of the ways that we can really show our expertise at Macro. Setting teams up for success is very rewarding.
Macro: What is the one thing you couldn’t make it through the day without?
Hudson: I really need my headphones and some good music to get into my groove.
Macro: What are your tried and true “work hacks”?
Hudson: Effective management of Outlook, including tasks like calendar blocking, implementing automated filtering rules, and applying tags for efficient sorting, is essential. Following this, organizing data through platforms like Smartsheet or Excel allows for seamless sorting, even with qualitative information. The goal is the ability to reference everything as easily as possible, ensuring smooth access to all resources.
Macro: What hard and soft skills do you lean on most in your day-to-day work?
Hudson: In my day-to-day work, I rely on my proficiency in Smartsheet and Excel, and my strong foundation in mathematics serves as another crucial skill. Regarding soft skills, maintaining a positive attitude stands out as one of the most valuable skills I possess.
Macro: What surprises people about your job?
Hudson: One aspect that often surprises people about my job is its strong emphasis on processes. Creating and optimizing processes enhances the effectiveness and success of our outcomes. And, I personally find the mathematical aspects needed in my work particularly interesting.
Macro: If you could give one piece of advice to a young professional, what would it be?
Hudson: Don’t be afraid to share your ideas. Even if they aren’t immediately implemented, inviting your team to evaluate and discuss them helps foster a deeper understanding of different perspectives and decision-making processes. Additionally, learn from the mistakes of others to avoid repeating them. Treat every opportunity, even those you haven’t encountered personally, as a chance to gain valuable insights and grow professionally.
