Our next “Due Diligence: Getting To Know…” employee spotlight is on: Associate Project Manager Luke Borden in New York.

Macro: Tell us a bit about yourself.

Luke: I’ve always had a passion for construction, starting when I was introduced to Lincoln Logs and Legos when I was younger. Someone once said I’d make a great architect – before I knew it, I was pursuing my master’s in architecture at Tulane University. From designing luxury homes at a small architecture firm to working on breweries and commercial spaces with a contractor, I’ve explored various facets of the industry. Now, at Macro, I enjoy being involved in both design and construction. Outside of work, you can find me hiking or snowboarding in the mountains, finding my new favorite restaurant in NYC, or following my favorite bands on tour.

Macro: What do you love most about your work or working for Macro?

Luke: Easy answer, the people. We thrive in a collaborative environment, constantly engaging with colleagues and clients. I couldn’t ask for a better team!

Macro: What is your favorite part of the project life cycle, and why?

Luke: Move-in! Witnessing our clients’ excitement as they step into their new space is incredibly rewarding.

Macro: What is the one thing you couldn’t make it through the day without?

Luke: Coffee, duh.

Macro: What are your tried and true “work hacks”?

Luke: Utilizing calendar placeholders is a game-changer, ensuring coordination for team meetings and large group calls. It’s a proactive approach that saves time and prevents scheduling conflicts.

Macro: What hard and soft skills do you lean on most in your day-to-day work?

Luke: I think I’m officially a wiz when it comes to Outlook and rely heavily on Excel and Adobe for various tasks. Additionally, I prioritize tasks strategically, striking a balance between being reactive and proactive to efficiently manage my workload, especially with new tasks popping up constantly.

Macro: What surprises people about your job?

Luke: The versatility required – we often wear multiple hats to manage every aspect of a project based on our clients’ needs.

Macro: If you could give one piece of advice to a young professional, what would it be?

Luke: Always listen and ask questions. We’re all lifelong learners, so don’t hesitate to seek guidance. Helping young professionals also fosters personal growth for both mentors and mentees.

Macro: Describe yourself in 5 words or less.

Luke: Ambitious, adaptable, confident, proactive, and considerate.
