Due Diligence: Getting to Know Tim Carey



Our next “Due Diligence: Getting To Know…” employee spotlight is on: Associate Director Tim Carey in Philadelphia.

Macro: Tell us a bit about yourself, Tim.

Tim: I was born and raised in South Jersey, and I went to the University of Pennsylvania to study economics and consumer psychology. My career began with an internship as a risk analyst with Aon Hewitt in Chicago, which led to my first official job with Restaurant Brands International (RBI). At RBI, I developed my skills in management and special projects operations, while also building my understanding of financial analysis. Collaborating and learning across so many different departments and teams opened up so many doors for me – I even lived in Europe for a few months as part of a special project team for Burger King, negotiating franchise agreements & providing operations analysis for locations in France, Spain, London, and Germany.

Following my time at RBI, I found Macro, where I’ve now been for almost 8 years. At Macro, I specialize in budget & cost control processes, financial analysis, data management and engineering, and analytics. I’ve had the privilege to work on many unique projects while at Macro, including but not limited to the Comcast Technology Center, Comcast North America Retail Rollout, Comcast Go To Market Process Engineering, and Greenberg Traurig New York City. My hobbies include running, listening to audio books, and collecting 90s nostalgia and exotic minerals.

Macro: What do you love most about your work?

Tim: The people! I’ve been blessed to work with some extraordinary individuals both within Macro and externally, from all kinds of different backgrounds and perspectives. You can learn something new every day just by being around such a diverse group of people.

Macro: What is your favorite part of the project life cycle?

Tim: My favorite part of the project lifecycle is the upfront planning & due diligence aspects. You have some time before the execution phase begins to really think through structure and processes, giving you the ability to strategize how you will address and alleviate future obstacles.

Macro: What are your tried-and-true “work hacks?”


  1. When in doubt, Google it or watch a YouTube video.
  2. If it takes me longer than five minutes to explain a concept, then I likely made it too complicated and need to rethink my approach.

Macro: What hard and soft skills do you lean on in your day-to-day?

Tim: Most of my day-to-day work is done in Excel & Smartsheet, so I rely heavily on my hard skills surrounding data management & quantitative analysis. A soft skill I find myself utilizing frequently is being able to “read the room” – understanding different parties’ perspectives and interpretations.

Macro: What surprises people about your job?

Tim: Most people are intimidated by large data & analysis; however, it really isn’t too bad once you start to practice and get the hang of it.

Macro: If you could give one piece of advice to a young professional, what would it be?

Tim: Don’t be afraid to ask questions, and always be looking for opportunities to work outside of your comfort zone. That’s the best way to learn new skills.
