Our next “Due Diligence: Getting To Know…” employee spotlight is on: Senior Director Tonya Williams in Houston.
Macro: Tell us a bit about yourself.
Tonya: I started my career in interior design, spending almost 15 years in design and project management before finding my passion in change management — where design meets human behavior. I’ve had the opportunity to work in various roles as both an end-user and a consultant, contributing to diverse projects across sectors and helping people navigate complex transitions.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time outdoors with my family—camping, relaxing by the water (it’s hot in Texas!), or getting my hands dirty in the yard. I also love art and have dabbled in many forms. I started taking a watercolor class earlier this year and I really enjoy the simplicity of materials and the outcome of learning something new.
Macro: What do you love most about your work or working for Macro?
Tonya: Honestly, it’s the people. The team at Macro is incredibly supportive, smart, and just fun to work with. We have each other’s backs, and there’s a real sense of trust and collaboration that makes even the tough days better. I also love that we get to show up as true partners to our clients—we’re not just checking boxes, we’re helping guide big decisions. That kind of work feels meaningful.
Macro: What is your favorite part of the project life cycle, and why?
Tonya: I enjoy the discovery and engagement phase the most—when we start connecting with end users, gathering feedback, and translating what we hear into actionable strategy.
Macro: What is the one thing you couldn’t make it through the day without?
Tonya: My giant bottle of ice water, with a touch of Pink Himalayan salt. Seriously, it’s always within arm’s reach and refilled multiple times a day (believe it or not!).
Macro: What are your tried and true “work hacks”?
Tonya: Calendar blocking to protect focus time, color-coded calendars and to-do lists for visual clarity, and scheduled buffers between meetings to prep or recap.
Macro: What hard and soft skills do you lean on most in your day-to-day work?
Tonya: Empathy and active listening are critical, especially in change work. On the technical side, data interpretation and storytelling—translating insights into compelling narratives for leadership.
Macro: What surprises people about your job?
Tonya: That change management isn’t just about communication plans and training decks—it’s about building trust, navigating resistance, and creating environments where people feel seen and heard.
Macro: If you could give one piece of advice to a young professional, what would it be?
Tonya: Stay curious and don’t be afraid to ask thoughtful questions. Insight often comes from simply listening with intention and following your curiosity.
Macro: Describe yourself in 5 words or less.
Tonya: Strategic, empathetic, honest, curious, resilient.
